Question:“I keep hearing that there are three layers in OBIEE, what are these?”
Marco: "The OBIEE model allows DBA/DW professionals to create repositories. Each repository contains three layers:
Physical Layer: It is where all the data source connections are defined. It provides a single interface to manage different types of data sources (Flat files, Excel files, Relational Databases, Multidimensional Databases, etc.) It also provides reverse engineering features that allow DBAs connections to database objects quickly. All these definitions are defined only once and regardless of how many reports, queries, or dashboards are created.
Business Model / Logical Layer: In this layer is where the data definitions are manipulated in order to adapt them to the business needs. In here tables are organized in Star Schemas; table names and columns names are changed to make them user friendly; hierarchies are defined; calculated columns are establish.
Presentation Layer:This layer provider the end-user visibility of the model. Everything on the Presentation Layer will be available for the users to create queries and reports. Usually it only contains tables and columns organized in a way that are relevant to the users.
The Oracle BI Suite EE 10g R3: Build Repositories class will cover all three layers in more depth."

The Bristow Group requested a Private Event for their HFM End User Training. The goal was to deliver training in two locations to 50 end users who were based in 4 continents. A tailored event was developed which took content from the following classes:
- Hyperion Financial Data Quality Management 11.1.1 Administration
- Oracle Hyperion Financial Management 11.1.1 for Interactive Users
- Oracle Hyperion Financial Reporting 11.1.1 for Financial Management Ed
- Oracle Hyperion Smart View 11.1.1 for Essbase
It is extremely important that End User training is targeted very specifically to the audience attending, it is critical that both the client and the Instructor work together as a team to outline the agenda. The Bristow Group team worked closely with Pribin Thomas (Principal Consultant/Instructor) from Kerdock to develop a specific agenda for this Private Tailored Event.
With communication between Kerdock and the Bristow Group open and frequent, not only was everyone on the same page, but the process was seamless and these events were a success.
The training classes that were delivered in Houston were at the Kerdock Training Facility (at no additional cost to the client). The training class delivered in the UK was onsite at the client facility and environments were hosted by ReadyTech (a third party hosting company). The setup was simple and straightforward, requiring little testing on the client site environments.
